Garden of Tea
Garden of Tea is an immersive VR game designed to educate players on the art of brewing traditional Japanese matcha tea. My team and I made Garden of Tea during the 2022 Halloween hackathon, a 24-hour game jam hosted by Miami Dade College and Microsoft.
We developed Garden of Tea as an XR game using Unity and Microsoft's Mixed Reality Tool Kit (MRTK). As the sole programmer, I was responsible for not only implementing the Tool Kit and creating all of the game's scripts, but also I had to figure out how to weave the MRTK's features in with the gameplay. We won second place in the XR category.
Within Garden of Tea, players learn the art of crafting traditional mocha tea. Guided by a friendly ghost named Mochi, you're taken on a step-by-step exploration of the mocha tea making process.
Set in a picturesque Japanese-inspired garden, you'll be immersed within a tranquil oasis, enveloped by lush greenery, breathtaking Sakura trees, and a gentle river. This serene setting provides the perfect backdrop for this relaxing tea-making experience.
After the game jam, our work on Garden of Tea didn't end as we started to collaborate with Microsoft to refine the game further, and as a result of this, we were able to showcase the game at the FilmGate 2022 Interactive Festival held at the Frost Science Museum of Miami. This opportunity allowed us to share Garden of Tea with a larger audience.
As we continue to work on Garden of Team we hope to expand on it further, allowing players to own a tea shop owner in Japan, serving multiple cute ghostly customers a wider selection of traditional teas.
